In a bold but decisive move to restore public trust and dignity to the Nigeria Police Force, Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, gathered all Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) for a strategic conference.
CP Oyeniyi, while conveying the directive of the Inspector-General of Police to the officers, issued a zero-tolerance ultimatum on extortion, illegal checkpoints, and unprofessional conduct, vowing strict discipline for offenders. The CP, emphasized proactive policing through intelligence-led operations, community engagement, stop-and-search duties, and faster response times.
CP Oyeniyi warned officers to avoid civil disputes like land ownership issues unless criminal acts such as violence or homicide are involved, noting that policing must prioritize integrity, professionalism, and human rights.
In a statement made available by Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirming the directives aim to enhance operational effectiveness across the state, he disclosed that accountability took center stage, with commanders held responsible for their jurisdictions.
“Arrest only those directly linked to offenses but not proxy arrests,” the CP directed, cautioning against sloppy raids that erode public confidence.
He advised that Critical posts like charge rooms must be staffed by competent officers as they serve as the police’s frontline interface with citizens. CP Oyeniyi, urged vigilance against crime signals and purposeful leadership guided by law.
