The surprise abduction of Sapele Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. Bright Afure Abeke, has exposed what the Peoples Democratic Party PDP in the state called a catastrophic failure of governance under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) described the Gov. Oborevwori’s administration as squandering security votes on re-election gimmicks while gunmen roam freely.
Hon. Abeke was snatched Friday night from his hotel on Owumi Road in Sapele, plunging the state into fresh horror..
In an indicting statement Sunday, PDP State Secretary, Alaowei Cleric Ebikonbowei, Esq., demanded that security agencies need to double up efforts to rescue the council boss unharmed and apprehend the culprits immediately.
The PDP expressed “rude shock” at the deteriorating security, accusing the government of lavishing security votes with impunity amid a crime wave that has now targeted elected officials.
“We never knew the security situation has descended into such an embarrassing situation in the State,” the statement added, while slamming the administration for prioritizing a “second term election bid” over its core duty of protecting lives and property.
Instead of bolstering security, the PDP accused the government of moving here and there, joining political alleluhia groups to waste taxpayers’ money in the name of working for the President Tinubu. According to the PDP, Governance, is ‘bleeding’ as resources vanish into campaign fanfare, leaving Deltans vulnerable to abductions that scream impunity.
The party sympathized with Abeke’s family, joining Deltans in prayers for his safe release, but issued a stark warning that the time is ripe now for the Government to prioritize governance over re-election bid.
“Let be known to you now that the choice to re-elect you as a governor lies in the judgement of Deltans when the time comes.”
This incident marks yet another low for Delta’s security architecture, fueling demands for accountability. As the council chairman’s fate hangs in the balance, questions arises where are the security votes going, and how many more must suffer before the government wakes up.
