Operatives of the Delta State Police Command has arrested two suspected electric cable vandals recovering vandalised cables following an early-morning operation on June 25.
In a statement made available by the command image maker SP. Bright Edafe, said operatives from Kwale Police Station, acting on credible intelligence and working with a local vigilante group, moved to a location along the Ibabu–Ugiliamai Road at about 10:30 a.m where they saw the suspects dismantling public power infrastructure. Sighting the police, the suspects attempted to flee, prompting an operation during which one suspect was injured and taken to hospital for treatment. The other suspect is in police custody.
The suspects have been identified as Osakwe Sunday, (28) and Ekene Obocha, (34). The vandalised electric cables were recovered and are now being held as exhibits, Edafe stated.
Delta State Commissioner of Police CP Yemi Oyeniyi, warned that the command will continue to pursue and prosecute anyone involved in attacks on critical government infrastructure, urging the public to keep providing timely and credible information to help security forces prevent and stop such crimes.
