It was a gathering of who is who in the society on Saturday, June 20, 2026, to pay last respects to Late Madam Patience Igho Egukawhore, eldest sister of High Chief (Dr.) Emonena Victor Wayles Egukawhore, JP, FCILG, Chairman/CEO of Dewayles Group of Companies, in a ceremony marked by high-profile tributes and wide cross‑sectional support.
The funeral drew political leaders, traditional rulers, business executives, clergy and community representatives from across the South‑South and beyond. Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State was represented at the event, while Mrs. Tobore Oborevwori, Wife of the Delta State Governor, attended alongside representatives of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other senior officials from Delta and Bayelsa states.
Also present at the ceremony were Federal and state lawmakers, including the Minister of State for Petroleum, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, and the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Frederick Agbedi. Members of the National and State Assemblies, commissioners, local government chairmen and party leaders from the region also paid their respects.
The occasion attracted prominent business figures and captains of industry such as Chief Kestin Pondi of Tantita Security Services Limited, Engr. Peter Ikenga of Transcorp Power Plc, and Evang. Chief Johnbull Ejovi of Ejovi Offshore Limited, among other corporate leaders.
Traditional rulers, clergy, and leaders from civic groups including the Isoko Development Union and the Ijaw National Congress joined community presidents‑general and alumni of James Welch Grammar School, Emevor where the deceased was fondly remembered as “Big Mama.”

Speakers at the event highlighted Madam Patience’s lifetime of kindness, compassion and service, saying her legacy will continue to inspire future generations. Emotions ran high as family, friends and well‑wishers delivered heartfelt tributes.
High Chief Dr. Emonena Victor Wayles Egukawhore, who also serves as the Okobaro of Okpolo (Enhwe) Kingdom, thanked all who supported the family during their period of mourning and the burial. He expressed deep gratitude to God for his sister’s life and appreciation for the outpouring of love and solidarity shown by dignitaries, associates and community members.
