The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 5, AIG Monday Agbonika, has directed officers of the Delta State Police Command to intensify intelligence-led operations against cultism, kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state. He gave the charge during an official familiarisation visit to the Command in Asaba on Thursday, November 5, 2026.

AIG Agbonika was received by the Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel E. Erale. The visit included an operational briefing, an address to officers and men of the Command, and a strategic engagement with stakeholders, including representatives of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) and the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA).
During the briefing, CP Erale presented an overview of the security situation in Delta State, highlighting the Command’s operational achievements, recovered firearms and ammunition, and cases under investigation. The AIG commended the Command’s efforts in combating crime but urged personnel to strengthen intelligence gathering, prioritise crime prevention and enforce relevant laws to discourage cult-related activities.
Addressing officers, Agbonika reiterated the Inspector-General of Police’s directives on community policing, professionalism and public accountability. He warned against corruption, extortion, abuse of power and other misconduct, stressing strict adherence to human rights and due process. He also called for political neutrality and adequate security arrangements ahead of forthcoming electoral activities, while highlighting ongoing efforts to improve personnel welfare.
Police-Community Partnership
At the stakeholders’ engagement, the AIG described credible intelligence sharing and sustained police-community collaboration as essential to crime prevention and public safety.
In his response, CP Erale assured the AIG of the Command’s commitment to implementing the Inspector-General’s directives, deepening intelligence-led operations and strengthening partnerships with communities. He reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to uphold professionalism, discipline and respect for human rights while protecting lives and property across Delta State.
