The National President of the Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria, GOMEP-NG, Comrade Akpovoke Otiti, has urged the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue schoolchildren allegedly abducted from Lassa, Borno State.
Otiti expressed concern over the government’s alleged silence on the incident, saying about 78 children had reportedly been in captivity since May 15, 2026.
He said some families allegedly had two or three children among the missing, while reports indicated that some victims were as young as one year and seven months.
The GOMEP-NG president said the prolonged captivity posed serious physical and psychological risks to the children and had deepened the trauma of their parents. He appealed to the Federal Government, the Borno State Government and security agencies to provide credible updates to the affected families and the public, while coordinating efforts with traditional and community leaders to secure the children’s safe release.
Otiti also urged political leaders not to allow political activities or national celebrations to overshadow the urgent responsibility of protecting citizens and rescuing children in captivity.
