ABUJA – Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has intensified engagement with relevant government institutions to resolve the long-standing welfare challenges confronting retired police officers, as the Federal Government moves to clear outstanding arrears and strengthen retirement benefits.
The initiative is part of ongoing efforts by the Tinubu administration Renew Hope, to improve post service welfare for former personnel of the Nigeria Police Force through reforms expected to enhance payments, eliminate administrative delays and restore confidence in the system.
To fast-track the process, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reportedly constituted a high level committee comprising representatives of the Ministry of Finance, the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, the Budget Office, the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission and the National Pension Commission (PenCom) to recommend sustainable solutions.
Police authorities are also updating the records of retired personnel through a nationwide verification exercise aimed at correcting discrepancies, improving documentation and ensuring that eligible beneficiaries are captured accurately.
Disu reaffirmed that the welfare of officers should remain a priority beyond active service, stressing that those who devoted their careers to protecting lives and property deserve financial security and dignity after retirement.
The proposed reforms have raised fresh expectations among retired officers, who are hopeful that government approvals and adequate funding will lead to the prompt settlement of verified arrears, improved benefits and a more transparent and efficient administration of retirement entitlements.
