…Directs all officers to appear in neat uniform with name tags
Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has ordered a stepped-up protection for places of worship, schools and correctional centres, warning officers to maintain strict discipline and professionalism.
This was contained in a statement issued by ghe Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, on June 3, 2026.
Speaking at a high‑level meeting in Asaba, CP Oyeniyi, convened the command management team, Area and Tactical Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and heads of departments to address rising violent crime and gaps in community engagement and conduct across the command.
The commissioner told supervising officers to enforce existing Nigeria Police Force rules governing behaviour, noting that professional misconduct will not be tolerated. He warned that supervising officers who fail to check misconduct will be held seriously liable.
CP Oyeniyi, also raised concerns about an apparent gap in community outreach by DPO’s. He ordered all DPOs to engage critical local stakeholders and sensitize residents on being security conscious, stressing that many murders in the state are linked to local disputes that escalate into fatal violence.
In a direct operational directive, the commissioner instructed Area Commanders and DPOs to identify and routinely visit schools, churches, mosques and correctional centres in their jurisdictions and ensure “maximum security” is provided to those facilities. Regular patrols and security checks were ordered.
The police boss further issued a uniform and appearance directive, mandating that all officers present themselves smartly and wear name tags on uniforms or approved tactical vests. He said officers who fail to display name tags will face sanctions and their supervising officers will likewise be held accountable.
The measures he said, are intended to strengthen public confidence and reduce violent incidents across the state.
