Nigeria Inspector General of Police Disu, has appointed Samuel Etaifo Erale, psc, mnips, as new Commissioner of Police for Delta State.
CP Erale assumed duty as the 25th Commissioner of Police for Delta State, the state police command announced on Monday.
A native of Owan East, Edo State, CP Erale succeeds CP Yemi John Oyeniyi. He was born on March 2, 1968, at Pedro Police Barracks, Shomolu, Lagos, and holds a BSc (Hons) in Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1992). He joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1994 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (Course 18).
CP Erale’s career spans more than three decades, with postings across several state commands and at Force Headquarters. He served in Kogi, Ekiti, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Rivers, Osun and Delta states, and as DC Admin in Rivers State (2022–2026). He spent 14 years in the Police Mobile Force (PMF), including nine years as a squadron commander.
His international experience includes participation in the United Nations mission in Kosovo (2000). At Force Headquarters, he worked in the Promotions Section and the Force Criminal Investigation Department.
He has also held roles such as Police Mobile Force provost, personal assistant to senior officers, AC Operations in Bayelsa and Ekiti, and DC Community Safety and Crime Prevention at Force Headquarters.
CP Erale recently supervised security for the off‑cycle elections in Osun State, described by the command as one of the most peaceful and successful in recent times. He was posted to Delta State in August 2026.
A member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and a graduate of the National Institute of Police Studies (MNIPS), CP Erale has completed multiple professional courses, including advanced detective work, small arms and explosives training in Botswana, tactical leadership, peace support and strategic command programs.
Described by the command as a tested and trusted operational commander, CP Erale is married with children and enjoys badminton and brisk walking in his leisure time.
The appointment was announced in a press release signed by SP Bright Edafe, Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, Asaba on 31 August 2026.
