Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has ordered sweeping restrictions on access to the Government House, Asaba, following the circulation of a viral video by social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), in which a woman made allegations involving a driver attached to the Governor’s convoy.
The Governor directed the Chief Security Officer (CSO) to immediately enforce stricter access control measures, including barring political appointees whose offices are outside the Government House from entering the premises without official clearance or pressing government business.
The directive also mandates the profiling of all personnel working within the Government House, with only staff duly identified through officially signed identity cards to be granted access through the main gate.
According to a Government House source, visitors have also been restricted, while attendance at the Government House chapel for morning prayers has been limited as part of the new security measures.
The source said that, except for the Deputy Governor, commissioners and other senior officials whose offices are within the Government House, political appointees such as Senior Special Assistants (SSAs), Special Assistants (SAs) and other aides without offices or official assignments inside the Government House have been directed to stay away.
According to the source, the Governor’s decision followed allegations contained in the viral video in which a young woman accused a driver in the Governor’s convoy, identified simply as Lucky, of abandoning her after allegedly impregnating her.
The woman claimed she had been in a relationship with the driver for over two years and had previously terminated two pregnancies for him before he persuaded her to keep the third pregnancy, promising to care for both her and the child.
She alleged that while living with the driver in a Government House residence, she returned from an outing one day only to be denied entry by security personnel, who allegedly informed her they were acting on the directives of the Chief Security Officer and another official identified as “PapaSara.”
According to her account, after being abandoned, she travelled to Abuja where she allegedly fell into the hands of persons involved in child trafficking. She claimed she was induced to deliver her baby prematurely after agreeing to sell the child for ₦2.2 million, but later attempted unsuccessfully to retrieve the baby.
The woman said she subsequently contacted VeryDarkMan, who intervened and allegedly helped recover the child while vowing to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
The Government House source maintained that Governor Oborevwori ordered the tightening of security and access protocols after becoming aware of the allegations circulating on social media.
As of the time of filing this report, the Delta State Government had not officially linked the new restrictions to the allegations contained in the viral video. The allegations made by the woman remain unverified independently, while no response had been obtained from the individuals named in the video.
