The Delta State Police Command has intensified its assault on crime, recording significant successes in combating kidnapping, armed robbery, human trafficking, and drug peddling since February, Commissioner of Police CP Yemi Oyeniyi, announced at a press briefing in Asaba today.
Delivering the command’s scorecard, CP Oyeniyi, credited proactive and intelligence-driven policing for making the state uncomfortable and hot for criminals. The CP noted that operatives were able to arrest kidnap syndicates alongside the recovery of sophisticated weapons like AK-47 rifles, and seizures of hard drugs as well as ransom money.Recovered Rifles from criminals
CP Oyeniyi further disclosed that on April 24, tactical teams in Ughelli arrested Ahmadu Usman, (22) and Haruna Abdullahi (37), members of a syndicate targeting commuters on the Ughelli–Warri Road. One AK-47 rifle loaded with 36 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition was recovered from the suspects, who remain in custody.
Alao, earlier in April 9, the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-Crime Squad, alongside the military, raided a hideout along Obulu-Uku Power Line after kidnappings in Ibusa and Ogwashi-Uku. A gun duel ensued between security agents and the suspects leading to the death of two as two female victims were rescued alongside the recovery of an AK-47 rifle with 19 rounds and the cash sum of ₦4.5 million in ransom, which was returned to the victims. While in March 16, in Issele-Uku, a joint team of police, military, vigilantes, and hunters rescued three victims unharmed, neutralized one kidnapper, and seized another AK-47 rifle following a fierce gun exchange.
Armed Robbery and Trafficking Busts
In a similar development, operatives of the command in April 17, nabbed two suspected armed robbers, Yushua Buhari, (19)and Garba Muazu, (25) in Imo State during a stop-and-search. The duo, linked to burglary sprees in Okpanam and Asaba areas of Delta state, had 17 stolen mobile phones and laptops in their possession. Investigations revealed they fenced goods across state lines; a manhunt continues for accomplices.
Also, in a chilling gender-based crime revelation, police operatives arrested human traffickers Blessing Mongo, (47) and Esther Meeting, (32) on April 3 following a complaint from Ekpan, Uvwie. The suspects had lured a 19-year-old girl and two friends to Ivory Coast for prostitution in September 2025. The victim was injected, had her womb surgically removed without consent, and was abandoned in Lagos. Medical exams confirmed the atrocity; the case is now with the State Criminal Investigation Department.
Drug Interception and Prosecutions
The CP also disclose that on April 13, Safer Highway Patrol officers along Onicha-Ugbo/Ewohimi Road stopped a Sienna bus enroute to Abuja, and uncovered 490 grams of suspected cocaine, 4 grams of “loud” cannabis, and other weeds hidden in energy-saving bulbs. The driver Osuke Stephen, (47) is in custody as probes expand.
The police boss revealed that begining from January to date, the command has charged 455 cases to court, secured 205 convictions, and has 250 trials ongoing across Delta’s 25 local government areas.
