Troops from Headquarters 63 Brigade/Sector 1 Joint Task Force, South-South Operation DELTA SAFE recovered seven rifles and two motorcycles during a raid at an abandoned police station in Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, military officials said.
The operation, carried out on 4 June 2026, followed credible intelligence indicating arms were being stored at the site. Military sources said the weapons and motorcycles were found concealed inside the deserted police facility.
Brigadier General Moronfolu Abdulmoshood Shonibare, Commander of 63 Brigade, praised the conducting troops for their resilience and professionalism and urged them to maintain the current operational tempo. He reiterated the formation’s commitment to denying criminals freedom of action across the area and warned that individuals or groups found harbouring arms or engaging in criminality would face the full weight of the law.

The recovery was announced in a statement signed by Captain Iliyasu Bawa-Rijau, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for 63 Brigade, on June 5, 2026, in Asaba. Though the brigade did not disclose whether any arrests were made or provide details about the origin of the weapons.
The raid is the latest in a series of operations by Operation DELTA SAFE aimed at flushing out criminal networks and reducing violent crime in Delta State. Local authorities and security agencies have called for sustained community cooperation and timely intelligence sharing to help locate and remove illicit arms caches.
