Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State on Thursday, November 3, scored his administration in the state high, stating that in the past seven and half years his administration has done much that even the blind can feel.
Speaking during the Peoples Democratic Party’s PDP, campaign council inauguration at the party campaign office in Asaba, Delta State, Governor Okowa said; there is a job to be done, and the job is to deliver the units, wards and local governments.
“This is the time to work and the task of campaign is not by staying back here at Asaba, but by going back home to convince the people at the units, wards and local government.
“I want to urge all political appointees to move back to their local governments and wards to work and deliver the party collectively as this is the time to work for appointments even in the next administration”.
On the opposition party in the state, Okowa said; ” I hear one of our brother who came to Asaba deceiving our people with lies and insulting people, but as you know my kind of politics is base on talking issues and convincing the people.
“They said we are not doing anything in the past seven and half years, but I ask myself is this real. It is only the blind that cannot see, but, even the blind can still feel something.
“As you know, he may be from Delta State, but because they are locked up in Abuja, they fail to appreciate the things we are doing in a simple way.
“Their party has failed, and plunged the nation into trouble, the only way to campaign now is by lying to the people”.
While referring to some of the achievements his administration has made, Okowa said; “Asaba use to be over flooded whenever it rains, but today, we were able to solve that problem by constructing the massive storm drainage system. He said his administration is also helping the federal government to constructs its own roads with ongoing interchange flu over, the ultra modern Chile Edozien secretariat that is one of the best in Nigeria today, the Dennis Osadebe University and many others”.
While calling on all the aspirants that contested the governorship primaries to embrace the party candidate and work to deliver him and the party, Senator Okowa appealed to them to be united and not to discriminate each other since the dust is settled.
“I contested the 2006 Governorship position, and I failed, but today here I am. So only God knows as there is always a tommorow.
Earlier in his welcome speech, the State party chairman, Olorogun Kingsley Esiso welcome all PDP members to the campaign council inauguration, stressing that the 2023 elections is a grassroot base, and urged all candidates and political appointees to go back to their units and wards to work. He further disclosed that in coming weeks, the PDP campaign train will move across all the 270 wards across the state.
Addressing party faithful, the party governorship fagbearer and speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Francis O. Oborevwori expressed his heartfelt appreciation to God, all party faithful for their confidence and love especially in the trying moments.
“I believe I speak the minds of majority of us here when I say that, the last five months have been quite exacting. They have been anxious and trying moments, but at the end, we have come out better, stronger, more united, and determined to deliver all the PDP candidates in the forthcoming general elections.”
He noted that with the inauguration of he campaign council, he believed that the governor has made the job easier for him and all other candidates because of his developmental strides of roads and physical infrastructure, urban renewal, entrepreneurship development for the youths, healthcare delivery, and vocational/technical education that he provided across the state.
The PDP governorship candidate while responding to what he described as misguided utterances of his APC opponent, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, he said; “I wish to remind Deltans and all well-meaning Nigerians that the current Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, in which Senator Omo-Agege is the Deputy President, is the worst in the history of Nigeria”.
Adding that the present senate is docile and rubber stamp in whose present the external debt portfolio currently stands at $40 billion as at the second quarter of this year. coupled with hyperinflation, naira free fall, escalating food prices, widespread poverty, dilapidated state of federal roads, labour discontent, and general insecurity.
Rt. Hon. Oborevwori however challenged Senator Omo-Agege tell Deltans what the monies were used for, stressing that during the reign of the Deputy President of the Senate as the Secretary to the Delta State Government was characterized by parochialism, greed, abuse of power, and undemocratic tendencies.
He charged Senator Omo-Agege to make his campaign an issue base instead of trying to deceive Deltans with lies even when the APC has dealt so badly with the nation.
On his agenda for the state, he said; “It is axiomatic that you do not change a winning formula, hence, my M.O.R.E agenda is geared at consolidating and extending the gains of the current administration.
“It is designed to continue and expand the infrastructural and human capital development programmes of the Okowa administration. The vision is to keep Delta State ahead in all aspects of social and economic wellbeing. For those who may still be in the dark, M.O.R.E is an acronym for:- Meaningful Development,- Opportunities for All,- Realistic Reforms, and- Enhanced Peace and Security,,andmy promise to Deltans is that, I will listen more, do more, and achieve more.
