The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is beaming with pride after Superintendent of Customs Nafisat Balogun, its pioneering first female pilot, earned a coveted U.S. commercial multi-engine pilot licence, marking yet another leap in her groundbreaking career.
NCS spokesperson Abdullahi Maiwada announced the feat Sunday, hailing it as a “significant moment” for Balogun and the entire organization. Balogun, who shattered barriers in a male-dominated field, was feted at a special ceremony by the Nigeria Customs Technical Hangar Service, cementing her status as a role model for women in aviation.
From cabin crew to licensed commercial pilot, Balogun’s ascent exemplifies grit and resolve. Managing Director of the Customs Technical Hangar Service, Kuhi Mbaya, lauded her journey at the event, crediting her success to personal drive and robust institutional support. “This sets a new benchmark,” Mbaya said, urging more female officers to chase aviation and technical careers fearlessly.
He also applauded Comptroller-General Bashir Adeniyi for championing gender inclusion and skill-building initiatives agency-wide.
Grateful for the backing, Balogun recommitted to exemplary service, vowing unwavering professionalism. Her achievement not only elevates NCS’s capabilities but inspires a new generation of women to soar in specialized roles.
