It was a devastating moment as a police Inspector attached to Bomadi Council Chairman in Delta state, Hon Dagidi Andaye, was shot dead by yet to be identify gunmen at the chairman’s residents in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The deceased Police Officer, identified as Inspector O Ocheidi Ojonugba of PMF 51, popularly called ‘Ade’ was shot dead while sleeping in his lounge in the Chairman’s apartment on last Monday.
It was gathered that as at the time of the incident, the council chairman had earlier went to Asaba on official duties.
The S.A Security to the council chairman, Obasanjo Zokumor who spoke at the scene of the incident said, “At about 3-4:am, armed robbers entered the Council Chairman’s compound after breaking through the generator power house while it was on.
“Immediately after gaining entrance, they went to the room of the security personnel who was sleeping in his apartment and was shot on the neck while asleep.
“After the shooting, they went through the back of the main house, destroyed one of the burglary protectors and entered through the dining section and went straight to the children’s room.
“At the children’s room, they demanded from the children where their father’s money and the jewelries of their mother were kept.
“They held the children hostage as they shot at the PoP ceiling and the wall of their room in other to extract information from the kids.
“They took all their phones, two iPads and a laptop, but they returned back to the house to search for more gadgets and unfortunately they did not found any.
“We don’t know what would have happened if they had met the chairman and his wife in the house.
“The gun of the killed police inspector was left behind and it was handed over to Divisional Police Officer attached to Agbarha B’ division.” He revealed.
Efforts to contact the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, was not successful as calls and messages to his line were not returned nor replied as at the time of this report.
But a security source from the Delta State Police Command confirmed the incident. The source said,” “At about 4:15 am, on August 25, we got information that armed men broke into the compound of the executive chairman of Bomadi local government area, Hon Dagidi Andaye in Ughelli.
“The DPO of Ofuoma Police division, and his men upon getting to scene discovered that one Inspector Ojonugba Ocheidi serving at PMF 51, was shot on the neck on a close range and died on the spot.
“His service A-K 47 rifle with fifty seven rounds of ammunition was recovered and the items stolen were four phones, one laptop and two power banks.
“Investigation revealed that four mobile police were attached to the chairman but before that very day of the incident, two traveled with him to Asaba while one traveled with wife and the deceased was left behind making him prone to danger.
“His remains has been deposited at a private morgue in Ughelli and his service gun is secure as investigation is ongoing.” The source disclosed.
