…Urges President’s campaign team to address grassroots concerns
ABUJA – A political stakeholder, Otiti, aka truthsayer has called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership to address concerns over the alleged inaccessibility of some federal political appointees, saying their attitude towards grassroots supporters could undermine President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election prospects.
Otiti alleged that some appointees had become difficult to reach after securing positions in government, citing complaints about unanswered telephone calls, unacknowledged letters and a perceived lack of engagement with party members and other stakeholders.
He expressed concern that people who supported political officeholders before their appointments were now struggling to gain their attention, despite their continued importance to grassroots mobilisation.
According to Otiti, the situation could breed resentment among party loyalists, particularly when those same appointees eventually return to their communities to solicit votes and seek political support during election campaigns.
He argued that political appointments should be based on competence, merit and the capacity to deliver results, while those occupying public offices should remain accessible and responsive to the people.
Otiti appealed to President Tinubu’s campaign team to investigate the concerns raised by grassroots stakeholders and strengthen communication between political appointees and party members.
He maintained that the APC’s electoral strength depends partly on the commitment of its grassroots supporters, whose concerns should be taken seriously by those representing the government.
Otiti added that the party should assess whether the conduct of its appointees and the perceived neglect of grassroots supporters could affect its performance in the next presidential election.
He urged the APC leadership to promote accountability, accessibility and merit in public appointments, stressing that maintaining the confidence of party members and supporters would be important to its future electoral efforts.
