The Delta State Police Command have arraigned 33 Suspects over New Year’s Eve Violence and Drug Busts in Asaba, Capital of the State.
In a press release made available by the command spokesman, SP. Bright Edafe, Urges the public to Ignore Sensationalism and Fake News.
“The Delta State Police Command is setting the record straight on arrests made during New Year’s Eve security operations in Asaba, countering a wave of misleading reports some Online newspapers”.
Edafe, clarified that operatives of the command nabbed several suspects across Asaba for offenses including violent disturbances, public nuisance, drug-related crimes, and actions risking public peace, disclosing that after initial investigations, 33 suspects faced prima facie charges and were arraigned at Magistrate Court 1, Asaba.
He said, the court remanded three in custody, while granting bail to the rest, with prosecution set to continue under due process, countering tue claim that the spotlighted suspect wasn’t arrested as a churchgoer or for media talks but was caught with two others in a Mercedes Benz GLK parked on a side street opposite Pinnacle Hotel, Asaba, allegedly buying illicit drugs from a dealer.
He noted that all four were arrested on-site, with incriminating evidence seized. One suspect, affiliated with a sister security agency, received bail and was released to his organization, ensuring court attendance.
Edafe again noted in the release that bail doesn’t end probes or signal innocence—investigations and potential prosecution continue, prompting his recent invitation for formal proceedings.
The Command urges the public to reject sensationalism, designed to deceive and disrupt police work as they are committed to professionalism, transparency, the rule of law, and protecting public safety.
