Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central Senatorial District, has called on Nigerians to remain resilient and support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms, assuring that the current hardships will give way to a more stable and prosperous country.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, October 1, 2026, to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, Dafinone acknowledged the pain many citizens are feeling but insisted that the administration’s reform agenda is already beginning to produce results.

“The Scripture reminds us that ‘weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning,’” the senator said, urging Nigerians to “remain resilient, continue to pray for President Tinubu and support the policies of his administration as we navigate this period of national economic adjustment.”
He highlighted key reforms already undertaken by the Tinubu government, including the removal of petrol subsidy, foreign exchange liberalisation, changes to local government financing and the establishment of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), arguing that these bold steps were necessary to fix long-standing structural problems.
Beyond the national message, Dafinone specifically appealed to residents of Delta Central and the wider Delta State to continue supporting Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, stressing that cooperation between the federal and state governments is critical to attracting investment and creating opportunities for citizens.
“Together, we can build a new Nigeria where peace prevails and every citizen has the opportunity to pursue and achieve their dreams,” he said. “If we remain united and persevere through this difficult season, a brighter chapter lies ahead.”
The Federal Government has declared Thursday, October 1, 2026, a public holiday to mark the 66th Independence Anniversary, with celebrations held under the theme: “From Reforms to Stability: Consolidating Nigeria’s Renewed Hope for Shared Prosperity.” President Tinubu is scheduled to deliver a nationwide broadcast from Lagos as part of the day’s activities, while security agencies have been deployed to ensure peaceful celebrations across the country.
