The Delta State Police Command is intensifying efforts and vowed to bring to justice those responsible for the tragic murder of retired Justice Ifeoma Okogwu.
This was disclosed in a press statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP. Bright Edafe, and made available to Journalists on Sunday, November 30, 2025.
It could be recalled that, on November 24, 2025, police responded swiftly after a distressing report from the late judge’s brother, who discovered her lifeless body with her legs and hands tied, including her mouth in her home. The Divisional Police Officer of ‘A’ Division, Asaba, led the immediate investigation, recovering the body and transferring it for autopsy.
However, one suspect, Lucky Matthew, has been detained, while the prime suspect, Godwin Vanem, remains at large.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police Olufemi Abaniwonda, has ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Homicide Unit for a thorough and discreet inquiry. Preliminary findings, however, point to Godwin Vanem as the main perpetrator, who fled the scene after committing the crime. Police have launched a nationwide manhunt to apprehend him swiftly.
The State Police Commissioner has expressed heartfelt condolences to Justice Okogwu’s family and reassured them and the public that justice will be served.
