Contrary to insinuations that Senator Ede Dafinone and Hon. Patrick Ukah, were onboard the Itakpe-Ujevwu train that was involved in an accident at Agbor, the Nigerian Railway Corporation has clarified that both men instead only helped mobilize first responders and supported rescue efforts after the incident.
In a press release dated June 9, 2026, and signed by Dr. Kayode Opeifa, LOL Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer NRC, said an earlier statement had wrongly suggested the two men were passengers on the train. The agency said the mix-up caused embarrassment and apologized to both men.
According to the statement, Dafinone and Ukah, played a role in bringing emergency personnel to the scene and the NRC praised their quick intervention and described their support during the rescue operation as selfless.
The clarification appears aimed at correcting public confusion around the accident and recognizing the contributions of the two top government officials.
