Foremost Niger Delta Environmental and Peace Advocate, Chief Sheriff Mulade,Ph.D, winner of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) primary election for the Warri Federal Constituency, has rebuffed reports alleging that he stepped down from the House of Representative contest and endorsed another aspirant.
Mulade, a popular aspirant and one of those that overwhelmingly won the hearts of constituents described the false claims as mischievous and handiwork of political opponents.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, by the Director of Media and Publicity of the Team Chief Sheriff Mulade Campaign Organisation, Comrade Friday Ugedi, Mulade dismissed the purported statement circulating on social media as false, lies and unfounded, affirming his preparedness for the contest.
The media team also frowned at the purported publication describing it as a calculated attempt to confuse and deceive teeming supporters who have vowed to deliver him during the pool.
“The publication is fabricated and intended to mislead party members and supporters following Mulade’s emergence as the winner of the party’s primary election”.
The statement further held that Chief Mulade, remains the duly elected candidate of the NDC for the Warri Federal Constituency and has neither withdrawn from the race nor endorsed any other aspirant.
The media and campaign team further alleged that those behind the report were those that have vowed to impose an aspirant on the people forcefully but were disappointed as constituents voted Mulade who is their choice candidate. This they said, has made them to embark on false campaign that Chief Sheriff Mulade, has withdrawn from the race.
The statement maintained that Chief Mulade’s victory reflected the confidence reposed in him by delegates from Warri North, Warri South and Warri South-West Local Government Areas.
“The attention of Chief Sheriff Mulade, and his supporters has been drawn to a fabricated and misleading statement currently circulating on social media, claiming that Chief Sheriff Mulade, conceded defeat and endorsed another aspirant in the NDC primary election for the Warri Federal Constituency,” the statement noted.
The campaign further stressed that at no time did Mulade issue any statement indicating that he had conceded defeat, stepped down or abandoned his aspiration.
It accused unnamed political opponents of resorting to misinformation and propaganda after failing to secure victory at the primary election.
While calling on party members, supporters and the general public to disregard the alleged fake publication, the campaign expressed confidence that the outcome of the primary election would stand.
The statement also reaffirmed Mulade’s commitment to democratic principles, transparency and justice, insisting that the mandate freely given to him by delegates remained valid.
According to the campaign, no amount of misinformation or political pressure would alter the outcome of the primary election, adding that Mulade’s aspiration remains firmly on course ahead of the general election.
