The Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP-NG) has confirmed Professor Nosa Owens-Ibie as the keynote speaker for its 2026 Annual Conference, Lecture and Workshop scheduled for November 26 in Abuja.
The event will be held at the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development, opposite the Central Bank of Nigeria headquarters in the Federal Capital Territory.
The conference is themed, “Securing Nigeria’s 2027 Elections: The Role of Online Media in Information Integrity, Public Trust and Democratic Resilience.”
Owens-Ibie is a Professor of Communication, Media and Development and a two-term former Vice-Chancellor of Caleb University, Imota, Lagos.
According to GOMEP-NG, his selection reflects the importance of informed discussions on the responsibilities of the media, particularly online media practitioners, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The conference is expected to attract online media editors and publishers, journalists, academics, policymakers, political stakeholders and other professionals.
Participants will examine the evolving role of digital media in Nigeria’s electoral process, with discussions focusing on information integrity, public trust, responsible journalism and the contribution of online media to democratic resilience.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued by Tochukwu Eluwa, National Publicity Secretary of GOMEP-NG, on Sunday.
