The Delta State Police Command, led by CP Aina Adesola, has dismantled a notorious kidnap syndicate and nabbed an armed suspect, recovering two AK-47 rifles, a locally made gun, and live ammunition in swift operations.
The operation which took place in Ughelli, had three suspects handed over by the Ughelli Area Commander, including Usman Ayuba (22) apprehended at Iyede Community), Ibrahim Abubakar (22) of Akwa Ibom State, and Haruna Dahiru aka Bodere (23) also apprehended at Iyede Community. They were all arrested by the CP Special Assignment Team
The suspects had on February 26, at about 8:10 p.m led police to a bush in Iyede where a magazine with 25 live rounds was recovered, while the following day at 3:45 p.m one Ak-47 rifle was recovered from their hideout.
The suspects were all identified by female victim, abducted on February 4, at Uloho Avenue in Ughelli, and released after a ₦2 million ransom was paid after three days. All three suspects are in custody as investigation continues.
In a similar development, on February 27, at about 5 a.m., Dragon Patrol Team officers stopped Shuabu Adams (55) near Western Delta University along the Abraka-Oghara road. A search uncovered a locally made cut-to-size gun loaded with two live cartridges hidden in his bag. Adams was arrested on the spot.
Delta State Police Commissioner Aina Adesola, praised the officers’ bravery and professionalism, vowing Delta won’t tolerate kidnappers, gunrunners, or traffickers. He called on residents to keep sharing tips for safer communities.
