The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Delta State, Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru, has expressed confidence that growing political awareness among Nigerians will significantly reduce vote-buying, election rigging, and other forms of electoral malpractice ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ogboru stated this on Friday at his country home in Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area, while addressing a large crowd of supporters and party faithful who gathered to welcome him. He said the increasing enlightenment of voters would make it more difficult for politicians to manipulate the electoral process.

The ADC candidate urged Deltans to reject what he described as over two decades of poor governance and unfulfilled promises. According to him, Delta State can be better governed and the dividends of democracy more effectively delivered to the people.
He argued that despite the state’s enormous resources, successive administrations had failed to take the right decisions needed to improve infrastructure, security, and overall development. He described the massive turnout of supporters as an indication that many citizens are eager for change.

Ogboru maintained that among the major political parties in the state, only the ADC offers a credible alternative capable of providing responsible leadership and sustainable development. He said the party is committed to restoring integrity, accountability, and good governance in Delta State.
Speaking on electoral integrity, Ogboru recalled previous legal battles over disputed election results and alleged cases of electoral irregularities. He, however, expressed optimism that increased voter consciousness and advancements in electoral technology would help safeguard future elections.
The former governorship candidate also dismissed suggestions that he or his supporters could be influenced by financial inducements. He urged residents to defend their votes and reject attempts by politicians to manipulate the electorate through vote-buying.
On governance, Ogboru advocated a bottom-up development approach, emphasizing the need to invest more resources in local governments and empower communities to drive their own development. He argued that the state’s challenge lies not in a lack of resources but in poor management and misplaced priorities.
He assured supporters that the ADC would soon unveil a comprehensive development agenda focused on improving the lives of citizens. According to him, leadership should be about creating value for the people rather than merely acquiring political power.
