Senator Ede Dafinone representing Delta Central Senatorial District has expressed deep sorrow over the death of late Urhobo music legend Professor Johnson Oyibode Adjan, also known as “The Ogburine.”
In a statement released Tuesday, Dafinone said; “It is a painful loss to the Urhobo nation and to all who value the preservation of indigenous traditions and identity, I am deeply saddened by the passing of Prof. Johnson Oyibode Adjan.”
The senator described Prof. Adjan as a towering figure in Urhobo music and one of the finest custodians of our cultural heritage whose musical work transcended entertainment to become a living archive of our history, philosophy, and values.
He said through his thought-provoking lyrics and unique artistic style, Prof. Adjan enlightened, inspired, and connected generations of Urhobo sons and daughters to their roots. His work served as a bridge between the past and the present, ensuring that Urhobo culture remained vibrant and relevant. Senator Dafinone, highlighted Prof. Adjan role as a respected cultural ambassador whose influence transcended music. His unwavering commitment to promoting Urhobo language, customs, and wisdom earned him admiration across Nigeria and beyond. According to Dafinone, the echoes of Prof. Adjan famous refrain, “Isi wadooo… iyaaa…,” will continue to resonate as a reminder of his enduring legacy and remarkable contributions to society.
The senator extended sincere condolences to Prof. Adjan’s family, the Urhobo people, the creative community, and the many admirers whose lives he touched through his art and wisdom., asking God to grant them comfort in this difficult time and may the soul of Prof. Johnson Oyibode Adjan find eternal rest.
