Itsekiri coordinators within Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited have issued a strongly-worded statement defending the Federal Government decision to renew the company’s oil pipeline surveillance contract, describing those calling for its cancellation as self-serving troublemakers with criminal ties.
In a press briefing held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, and addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the coordinators representing more than a dozen community clusters across the Niger Delta described individuals agitating against the contract as lacking both the mandate and credibility to speak on behalf of our people.
“These agitators do not represent the interests of the people but are driven by selfish motives and personal gain,” the statement read.
The statement added that many of those behind the calls for cancellation were previously involved in pipeline vandalism and illegal oil bunkering activities that Tantita Security has effectively curtailed. The group expressed appreciation for President Tinubu’s decision to extend the contract, calling it a demonstration of the administration’s commitment to protecting Nigeria’s critical oil and gas infrastructure.
The coordinators also threw their weight behind Tantita’s founder, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo widely known as Tompolo describing him as “the most capable and reliable leader for this critical national assignment.” Under his watch, they said, the company has significantly reduced oil theft, restored investors confidence in the sector, eliminated kidnapping along Niger Delta waterways, and helped revive aquatic ecosystems.
Responding to calls for greater community inclusion in the surveillance arrangement, the coordinators argued that an inclusive structure is already in place. “Every community and ethnic nationality across the Niger Delta is duly represented,” the statement said, noting that community-based coordinators and contractors have already been appointed across the region. The group drew a firm line on the nature of the contract, insisting it is not a “Niger Delta slot” or regional entitlement, but a federal responsibility awarded on merit.
“Tantita has earned this trust through performance, discipline, and results,” the group affirmed. The statement was signed by 18 cluster coordinators spanning communities including Ugborodo, Ubeji, Koko, Egbokodo, and Orere, among others.
