The inauguration of the Tobore Oborevwori Cottage Hospital Ughelli, in Ughelli North, Delta State, took an unexpected turn when the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Local Government Chairman, Mr. Efe Ekete, engaged in a heated public altercation with an elderly woman attending the inauguration of the project by the wife of the Delta state Governor, Mrs. Tobore Oborevwori.
According to sources, the conflict began when the woman asked Mr. Ekete, to move so she could have a clear view of the Governor’s wife during the commissioning ceremony.
Eye witness report that the aged woman only said, “Oga, please kindly step aside from my front so I could see Her Excellency the wife of the Governor,” but Mr. Ekete, responded angrily, questioning if she knew who he was speaking to. The disagreement escalated as Mr. Ekete, rained insults on the woman, calling her unmarried and accusing her of lacking respect for men.
The woman retaliated, and this led to a verbal and physical clash that almost disrupted the event.
In the chaos, a man trying to intervene was injured on the lips, and another person who rebuked Mr. Ekete, also faced his wrath. The situation was eventually calmed down by bystanders before it escalated further.
His actions was unanimously condemned by many describing it as an abuse of power, social misconduct and unruly attitude which is not ideal and capable.of smearing the name of his boss Jaro Egbo.
When contacted, Mr. Ekete acknowledged the incident, defending his actions by stating, “That woman was insulting my head. I don’t tolerate nonsense. I had to express my anger.” He dismissed criticism, ending the conversation abruptly.
