Police in Delta State has arrested four suspects linked to a violent robbery syndicate terrorizing residents of Ughelli and environs, recovering key evidence in a swift operation today.
In a press statement signed by Police Public Relation Officer, SP. Bright Edafe, revealed that acting on credible intelligence and residents’ complaints about attacks involving cutlasses and motorcycle thefts, the CP Special Assignment Team (CP SAT), alongside Ughelli Kingdom Vigilantes Group, raided multiple spots in Ughelli between 6:30 a.m. and 9:10 a.m.
The statement dosclosed that three suspected armed robbers, Surajo Atar, (25) from Bigal Village, Gada LGA, Sokoto State; Abba Musa, (24) from Madara Village, Danbatta LGA, Kano State; and Babangida Yusuf, (25), from Hamdullahi Village, Albasu LGA, Kano State were nabbed.
Operatives recovered a cutlass and a black mask from the trio, items suspected in their crimes that left victims injured and robbed.
Interrogation led operatives to a trailer park along Sapele Road in Warri, where one Abdurasheed Shafiu, (31) accused of buying stolen motorcycles from the gang was arrested. Shafiu has confessed to receiving the loot.
Commissioner of Police Yemi Oyeniyi, assured the public that investigations continue to track down remaining syndicate members and recover victims’ property.
“We remain committed to protecting lives and property,” he said, urging residents to share timely tips with police.
The operation highlights growing collaboration between police and local vigilantes amid rising insecurity in Delta communities.
