Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, will serve as Special Guest of Honour at the 2026 Annual Conference, Lecture and Workshop of the Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP-NG), organisers have announced.
The one-day conference is scheduled for Thursday, November 26, 2026, at the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development, opposite the Central Bank of Nigeria Headquarters in Abuja, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
This year’s edition is themed “Securing Nigeria’s 2027 Elections: The Role of Online Media in Information Integrity, Public Trust and Democratic Resilience.”
GOMEP-NG says the event will bring together online media editors and publishers, journalists, academics, policymakers and other stakeholders to examine how digital platforms can promote credible information, combat misinformation and disinformation, and strengthen public trust ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Governor Oborevwori’s participation is expected to add a governance perspective to discussions on information integrity, responsible journalism and democratic resilience as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 polls.
His administration’s MORE Agenda—focused on meaningful development, opportunities for all, realistic reforms, and enhanced peace and security—covers key areas such as infrastructure, healthcare, education, youth and women empowerment, and economic development, which align with the conference’s emphasis on stable, credible information ecosystems.
Keynote speaker: Professor Nosa Owens-Ibie, PhD, has been named keynote speaker for the conference.
Mother of the Day: Chief Mrs. Grace Aghoghovbia, PhD, Executive Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Foreign Matters, will be honoured as Mother of the Day.
Planning committee: Comr. Ikechi Enwereji is Chairman of the Planning Committee, with Ms. Rabi Abubakar, Esq., as Secretary.
The event is designed as a platform for media professionals, policymakers and academics to tackle challenges confronting online journalism, including professional ethics, misinformation, and the need for credible information in the electoral process.
