Relief and succour will on October 1, 2025, come to the constituents of Delta Central Districts as the Senator representing the Senatorial district, Senator Ede Dafinone, in partnership with the National Health Fellows, will commence Diabetes Sensitization and Testing Medical Outreach, begining on October 1 to 18, 2025, across all eight local government areas in the district.
The initiative, themed “Come Check Your Sugar Level O!”, is aimed at tackling one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing health challenges, diabetes, by offering free testing, sensitization, and community education to residents.
Health experts warn that diabetes often goes undetected until it leads to severe complications such as kidney failure, blindness, stroke, or death. In Delta Central, access to routine testing and preventive care remains limited, a gap the outreach is designed to close.
Senator Dafinone said the programme reflects his commitment to improving healthcare delivery at the grassroots and empowering communities with knowledge. The outreach will focus on prevention, lifestyle modification, and awareness creation as effective tools for reducing the burden of diabetes in the senatorial district.
The programme will be staged across the eight LGAs as follows: Sapele (Urban PHC, Oct. 1), Ethiope West (Ogharefe 1 PHC, Oct. 4), Ethiope East (Abraka PO PHC, Oct. 7), Uvwie (Council Secretariat Hall, Oct. 9), Okpe (Council Secretariat Hall, Oct. 11), Udu (Orhuwhorun PHC, Oct. 14), Ughelli North (Council Secretariat Hall, Oct. 16), and Ughelli South (Ewu PHC, Oct. 18). All events are scheduled for 9:00 a.m. daily.
The outreach will be coordinated by the National Health Fellows, with contact persons in each location available to provide details and mobilize participation.
According to the organizers, the initiative is expected to reduce preventable deaths linked to diabetes and strengthen public health systems in the district. “Together, we can build healthier communities and a stronger future for Delta Central,” the statement added
