The Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), will hold a four-day capacity-building workshop for 185 teachers in rural and hard-to-reach schools across the state.
In a statement jointly signed by the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Hon. Samuel Mariere, and the Director of Teacher Development Department, Mrs. Eru Ezefili, the workshop is scheduled to take place from Tuesday, September 16 to Friday, September 19, 2025, at Peace Garden Hotel International, Ighwretakpere (Ovwodokpokpor-Ogor), Ughelli North Local Government Area. Sessions are billed to start daily at 9 a.m.
With the theme “Reducing Out-of-School Children through Multigrade Pedagogy,” the programme is designed to strengthen the capacity of teachers working in challenging environments where they often cater for learners of different ages and grade levels within a single classroom.
The statement explained that the residential training will feature practical sessions, group activities, and expert-led modules aimed at boosting teachers’ competence and confidence. It noted that multigrade pedagogy is a global initiative driven in Nigeria by UBEC in collaboration with UNICEF, targeted at reducing learning gaps and ensuring inclusive education.
According to the organisers, the initiative underscores the importance of innovative teaching approaches in bridging educational inequalities in rural communities. They also reaffirmed SUBEB and UBEC’s commitment to continuous teacher development and to tackling the challenge of out-of-school children in Delta State.
