This heartrending occurrence has brought to light, once more, the mounting concern over the increasing frequency of accidents involving heavy-duty trailers along the heavily-trafficked Felele axis.
In May,19 people including five children lost their lives in a tragic accident along Obajana/ Lokoja road, prompting the Kogi state governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo to call for stricter enforcement of road traffic laws along Federal highways.
In April,Six persons lost their lives in a road crash involving a passenger bus along the Lokoja/Abuja road
Also last week, October,12,ten persons were killed in a road accident along the same Obajana/Lokoja route.
Local residents and students of the area have voiced their concerns and are actively urging the Kogi State Government to implement immediate and strategic actions to prevent further tragic losses of lives in similar incidents.
It has been strongly suggested that there be a regulation put in place, restricting trailers from navigating through the city during the day, potentially allowing them to move only after the hour of 9:00 p.m.
This change is proposed with the aim of mitigating the risks associated with high traffic, ensuring greater protection for commuters, students, and residents who regularly frequent the vicinity of Felele.
