It is a sad moment for Catholics in Nigeria as gunmen has again shot dead a Catholic Priest of the Nsukka Diocese, Rev. Fr. Matthew.
The murdered cleric is the parish priest of St. Charles Catholic Church in Eha-Ndiagu.
He was said to be shot dead by suspected Kidnappers on Friday.
According to source, Rev. Fr. Matthew Eya was driving yesterday evening along Ehandiagu road when the kidnappers shot at his car killing him instantly.
However, a source confirmed the incident on Saturday morning saying the killing looked more like an assassination.
According to the source, the priest, who was alone in a vehicle, was shot dead on the spot.
“He was coming back from Enugu. The gunmen on motorbike closed in at him close to where Type C hospital project is ongoing.
“They demobilised the vehicle tyres and the vehicle was forced to a stop. They now got close and shot him severally at close range.
“So, it doesn’t look like kidnapping situation,” he said.
The deceased hailed from Ugbaike in Enugu Ezike, Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the police nor the Nsukka Catholic Diocese has issued a statement on the incident
