The Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has announced the commencement of a comprehensive physical verification and certificate screening exercise for all teaching and non-teaching staff across the 25 Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) in the state.
According to a circular signed by the Permanent Secretary, SUBEB, Mr. Byron Unini, on behalf of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Samuel Mariere, the exercise is scheduled to begin on Thursday, 18th September, 2025, with dates and venues for each LGEA to be communicated in due course.
The initiative, according to the circular, is to authenticate the records of all personnel under the state’s basic education system.
It explains that the development was part of the present Board’s broader efforts to sanitize the system, eliminate ghost workers, and ensure that only qualified individuals occupy positions within public primary schools.
“Staff of the board are directed to appear before the screening committee with all relevant documents, including Letter of first appointment, Letter of confirmation of appointment, Letter of last promotion, Birth certificate or sworn affidavit of age declaration, Local Government Area Identification Letter, First School Leaving Certificate or Primary Six Master List, and Academic and professional certificates, such as WAEC, NCE, OND, HND, Degree, and NYSC certificates where applicable”.
SUBEB emphasized that failure to appear before the committee on the scheduled date will be interpreted as an act of abscondment and such staff will be treated accordingly.
The board directed Education Secretaries across the 25 LGAs to ensure that the exercise is widely publicized and that all staff are duly informed to ensure full compliance.
It stated that the verification exercise is in line with the ongoing reforms in the state’s education sector aimed at improving transparency, accountability, and the overall quality of basic education delivery.
