Comrade Akpovoke Otiti, Publisher of Aljaziralnews media Online, has outlined a sweeping vision for reform, accountability, and renewed progress within the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Delta State Council, Ughelli Correspondent Chapel, as he vies for the chairmanship position of the chapel.
Otiti, known for his uncompromising stance on, integrity, fairness, oppression, and honesty, has said that the time has come for a fresh direction anchored in competence and genuine commitment to development.
According to him, recycling the same set of leaders without a clear positive result deserve to be changed at this era, arguing that individuals who have held key positions for multiple term but without desirable achievements and results need to step aside for young vibrant, focus, full of dreams and visions to take over so that they too can contribute their own intuitions to the growth and as well redeemed the lost glory of the noble profession.
He, however, frowned at the attitude of some people whom he described as always angry whenever they are criticised for wrongdoing, but said such shouldn’t be the case.
“Criticism is not rudeness, but a tool that draws your attention, and possibly enables you to improve on areas cited by those you govern and this is for the progress and growth of the place”
Recounting the little he has contributed, Otiti stated that a greater percentage of courtesy visits, engagements, and external linkages connected to the Ughelli Chapel in recent years were initiated through his personal effort and network.
“Now, as we talk, by the grace of God, my contacts, presently extend across and beyond Delta State, and if voted, I won’t use these for my selfish interests but for the chapel.”
Otiti further stressed the need for a revival rooted in transparency, innovation, and empowerment. He also outlined a vision where members enjoyed structured welfare, sustainable monthly financial support, and access to broader opportunities beyond the usual Three Thousand naira stipends that trickle down from state level structures.
He pledged transformative leadership, committed to repositioning the institution as competitive, respected, and driven by purpose rather than routine if voted as chairman of Ughelli Correspondent Chapel.
