It was a cheering news to family and friends as the Nigeria Police Force has promoted former Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and redeployed to serve as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, in Delta State Command.
The promotion, which was approved by the Police Service Commission (PSC), is part of routine administrative procedures aimed at strengthening operational leadership across the country, according to police sources.
Adejobi’s redeployment to Delta State has been described by senior police officials as a “strategic posting.” Delta is widely recognised as one of Nigeria’s most operationally sensitive and security-challenged states, facing complex threats including armed robbery, kidnapping, oil theft, and communal disputes.
“The deployment of officers is a normal administrative procedure in the Nigeria Police Force. DCP Adejobi’s record of professionalism, commitment, and service excellence made him a natural fit for this crucial operational responsibility,” a senior officer at the Force Headquarters explained.
Senior police sources have dismissed reports suggesting that Adejobi was “controversially removed” from his spokesperson role, emphasising that his elevation was neither punitive nor political in nature. Instead, they stress that the move represents both a promotion in rank and a posting to a more strategic position within the force structure.
New Operational Responsibilities:
In his new role as DCP Operations, Adejobi will be tasked with significant responsibilities, including:
*Coordinating tactical deployments across Delta State
*Supervising field operations
*Leading anti-crime strategies
*Tackling violent crimes and curbing communal clashes
*Managing crisis response initiatives
*Enhancing police-community relations
Experience and Background:
Adejobi brings extensive experience to his new role, having previously served in various command and staff capacities throughout his career. His background in public communication, operational management, and community policing is expected to bring both operational rigor and improved community trust to Delta State’s security landscape.
“With his wealth of experience in public communication, operational management, and community policing, DCP Adejobi’s new role is not only a promotion in rank but also a posting to a more strategic and sensitive position,” another police officer noted.
Adejobi’s combination of communication skills and operational experience is seen as particularly valuable for addressing the region’s complex security needs while building stronger relationships with local communities.
This appointment reflects the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing efforts to deploy experienced officers to key operational positions across the country as part of broader security enhancement strategies
