The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State has elected a new executive to pilot the affairs of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections, with party leaders projecting a massive electoral turnaround in the council.
Comrade Lucky Ofomukoro emerged as chairman of the LGA chapter through a consensus arrangement ratified at the congress held on Saturday, following earlier ward congresses conducted across the 11 wards in the local government.
Declaring the new executive duly elected, the Returning Officer, Mr. Nick Ovakporia, said the process complied with the party’s laid-down rules and regulations. He commended stakeholders and delegates for conducting themselves peacefully throughout the exercise.
Also addressing party faithful, shortly after the declaration, founding leader of the APC in Delta State, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, congratulated members for adopting consensus at both ward and local government levels, describing it as unprecedented and a strong signal of unity and progress.
Emerhor expressed optimism that the renewed unity would position the party to deliver victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other APC candidates in the next general election.
Also speaking in an interview with journalists, the Ughelli North Local Government Area Chairman, Olorogun Jaro Egbo, described the congress as peaceful and a demonstration of unity within the party.
Egbo noted that Ughelli North, which comprises seven kingdoms, remains a politically strategic local government with one of the highest voting strengths in the state. According to him, the party is poised to build a “winning machine” capable of delivering overwhelming votes in future elections.
“With almost 200,000 votes, we are confident we can deliver at least 180,000 votes,” he said, adding that despite minor dissenting voices, reconciliation efforts were ongoing to ensure total unity within the fold.
In his remarks, the outgoing chairman of the Ughelli North APC, Mr. Samuel Evwighono, urged members to give maximum support to the new executive. He said his administration worked to reconcile aggrieved members and expand the party’s base across the wards, adding that any remaining issues should be addressed by the new leadership.
Evwighono emphasized the need to change the perception of Ughelli North as an opposition stronghold, stressing that the party must work collectively to secure victory in 2027.
In his speech, Comrade Ofomukoro pledged to run an inclusive administration and work closely with party leaders at all levels.
“As chairman, I am ready 100 percent to work with our leaders and seek their counsel in all decisions,” he said, assuring members that efforts would be intensified to reconcile aggrieved stakeholders and consolidate the party’s structure across the local government.
He maintained that with improved coordination and unity, the APC would firmly establish its dominance in Ughelli North ahead of the 2027 polls.
