Delta State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has been honored with “Most Outstanding Speaker and Humanitarian Champion” award by the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS.
Rt Hon Guwor was presented the award in his office in Asaba by the NANS President, Comrade Olushola Oladojo, flanked by some national and zonal executive members of the students’ union.
Comrade Oladojo said the honour was in appreciation of the Speaker’s commitment to quality education and welfare of students in Nigeria, particularly in Delta state.
He congratulated the Right Honourable Speaker for the award and appealed for sustained cooperation to the advancement of education in Nigeria, saying that the “Most Outstanding Speaker and Humanitarian Champion” award is to encourage him to do more.
The NANS President, also applauded Guwor’s resilience and unwavering support for students, even as he disclosed that he was in Delta State on Campus tour as promised during his electioneering campaign.
Responding, the Speaker Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, reiterated his commitment to promoting youth participation in leadership and governance across all levels of the society.
He said student leadership positions are vital training grounds for future leaders who must be prepared to take up responsibilities that will shape the nation.
“I stand as a testimony that young people can provide effective leadership. As Speaker, I will continue to represent the voice and interest of Nigerian youths in the legislature,” Guwor stated.
The Speaker commended the NANS executives for the award and for embarking on a statewide tour of higher institutions in Delta State, while cautioning against unhealthy politics within the association.
He urged them to prioritize unity, growth, and programmes that would empower young people to stay on the right path.
“NANS has not been doing so well in recent past, but i hope that the present leadership will resuscitate the vibrancy of the association.
“I will continue to do my best to make the younger generation proud to show that when given opportunity to the youth, they can excel”, Guwor stressed.
