As the world marks 2025 Workers’ Day, the Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers (GOMEP) Nigeria extends its heartfelt congratulations to workers across all sectors for their resilience, dedication, and immeasurable contributions to nation-building.
In particular, GOMEP pays special tribute to journalists in Nigeria and around the globe, who continue to uphold the values of truth, accountability, and democracy—often under challenging and dangerous conditions. From the bustling newsrooms of major cities to the rural corners where stories are untold, journalists remain the voice of the people and the conscience of society.
In a Press Release jointly signed by the President of the body, Dozie Nwankodu, and National Secretary, Comrd. Otiti Akpavoke Treasure, and made available to newsmen by the Spokesman, Mr. Dominic Edet Edem, the leaders reaffirmed the Guild’s commitment to promoting press freedom, protecting the rights of media workers, and advancing ethical journalism across Nigeria.
The statement reads:
“Today, we celebrate not just the labor of our hands, but the courage of our convictions.
“Nigerian journalists have shown remarkable courage and resilience in the face of threats, poor remuneration, and difficult work environments. They deserve to be honored and supported.
“As we honor the contributions of all workers today, GOMEP stands in solidarity with the Nigerian labor force and pledges continued advocacy for fairness, dignity, and justice in the workplace.
“Happy Workers’ Day 2025!”
GOMEP also calls on government at all levels, media proprietors, and stakeholders to prioritize the welfare, safety, and professional development of media workers, noting that a strong and independent press is essential to any thriving democracy.
