Ughelli – The spirit and enduring legacy of the late Omiragwa Moses Egbo were vividly re echoed at a grand thanksgiving reception held in his honour, as his son, Jaro Omovudu Egbo, rolled out an event of rare splendour at the family’s country home in Uduere.
The ceremony, which marked fifty years since the passing of the patriarch, drew an unprecedented gathering of men and women of substance from across Delta Central. From the early hours of the day, all roads leading to Camp Moses were visibly congested as dignitaries, political leaders, traditional rulers, captains of industry and community stakeholders converged to pay tribute to the memory of Omiragwa Moses Egbo.
The atmosphere was festive, reflecting a collective appreciation of a life widely regarded as impactful and exemplary. Jaro Omovudu Egbo, who was said to be barely five years old at the time of his father’s passing, stood tall as host, receiving guests with warmth and gratitude. In his remarks, he described the occasion as both a thanksgiving to God and a celebration of a father whose values, sacrifices and goodwill continue to speak volumes years after his demise.
The expansive compound of the Egbo family residence was transformed into a cultural haven, with various traditional dance troupes mounted to entertain guests. The colourful performances, drawn from different ethnic expressions, kept the audience enthralled and added cultural depth to the solemn yet celebratory event.
Guests were lavishly entertained, as food and drinks flowed freely, underscoring the family’s resolve to honour their late patriarch in a manner befitting his stature. Both the high and low in society mingled freely, reinforcing the inclusive spirit that the late Omiragwa Moses Egbo was reputed to have embodied during his lifetime.
The event recorded an overwhelming turnout, with observers remarking that “half of Delta State” appeared to be present. Those who could not attend were said to have missed a remarkable gathering that blended thanksgiving, remembrance and communal unity in one grand spectacle.
In a symbolic moment, many top Delta politicians commended the Egbo family for sustaining the legacy of their late father, declaring that the thanksgiving reception had effectively “rewritten the name of Omiragwa Moses Egbo in gold.” The occasion started with a thanksgivings at All saint Anglican church, Ughelli cathedral with renewed commitments to uphold the ideals for which the late patriarch stood.
