The Department of English and Literary Studies of the Delta State University, Abraka, is set to host a retirement symposium in honour of Professor Macaulay Mowarin who recently retired from the services of the university.
Professor Mowarin who served the university for thirty-one years was at different times the head of the Department where he mentored generations of staff and students. He is a leading language scholar whose seminal works consolidated studies in sociolinguistics, language contact and pidgin.
The title of the lecture is “The Academic and National Destiny in the Global South”. It will be delivered by Willy Ehwarieme, highly regarded polemicist, federalist scholar and versatile professor of political science presently of the Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo.
A panel of discussants made up of Professor Atinuke Popoola, Professor Emeka Ifesieh and Professor Peter Ottuh will engage the lecture.
In a statement issued by the incumbent head of department, Dr. Emmanuel Emama and the chairperson of the organizing committee, Dr. Anthonia Adanma Eguvwebere, the event will hold on Wednesday 14th May beginning at 10am at the 750 Hall A. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Samuel Asagba is expected to be the Special Guest of Honour.
The statement invites the university community and the general public to the event which will also feature performances and tributes. Guests are expected to be seated by 9.30am.
