…Alleges Gov. Oborevwori Is Not A Registered Member Of APC
By Godwin-Maria Utuedoye
Following the endorsement of Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori, by the Delta Central APC members at a Unity meeting convened at Ughelli on Sunday, June 8, 2025, reactions and condemnations has continued to pour in, describing the endorsement as illegal, gross political violation and an affront to democracy.
A staunch member of the APC in Delta Central, Jeckins Ejiro Wisike, in a press statement posted in his Facebook wall condemned the endorsement, alleging that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, is not even a registered member of the party, hence his endorsement is not valid. Read what he said;
RE: ILLEGAL ENDORSEMENT OF RT. HON. ELDER SHERIFF FRANCIS OBOREVWORI AS APC SOLE GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE IN DELTA STATE, AHEAD OF 2027 GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION.
I, Jeckins Ejiro Wisike, wish to unequivocally state that the meeting convened by the Chairman of the Delta Central Senatorial District Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), held on June 8, 2025 at Wetland Hotel, Ughelli North, is a gross political violation and a blatant affront to democracy and its core values, both in Delta State and Nigeria at large.
The purported endorsement of Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, the current Governor of Delta State, as the sole APC governorship candidate for 2027, is unconstitutional, null, and void. This action directly contravene the provisions of both the APC Constitution and the Electoral Act 2022, which clearly outlines the proper procedure for the nomination of candidates.
It is important to emphasize that Governor Oborevwori is not a registered member of the APC, and as such, any claim of his adoption as a candidate of our party is fraudulent and illegal. The so-called “vote of confidence” passed on him at the meeting is inconsistent with our party’s constitutional guidelines and is an affront to the democratic process.
I am deeply concerned that individuals who have taken an oath to uphold the APC Constitution are now deliberately undermining it. This is not only a betrayal of trust but a dangerous precedent that could erode the foundation of internal party democracy.
What took place on June 8, 2025, is not a democratic practice, it is an assault on democracy. Those responsible have chosen to prioritize personal interest over democratic principles, and this act must be resisted by all who genuinely believe in constitutional governance.
As a committed democrat and loyal member of the APC, I categorically condemn this attempt to impose an unqualified individual as the party’s flagbearer. Such undemocratic behavior is reminiscent of the political manipulation seen during the era of General Sani Abacha, when political parties were coerced into endorsing a single candidate under duress and authoritarian influence.
Let me make it clear: any attempt to force an unholy alliance between elements in the APC and the Delta State Government to subvert the party’s constitution and the will of genuine party members is unacceptable and must be challenged.
This action threatens the survival of democracy in Delta State and Nigeria as a whole. It reflects a growing trend of desperation among some political actors who are willing to sacrifice democratic values on the altar of personal ambition.
We must resist and reject this illegitimate endorsement in its entirety.
Signed,
Jeckins Ejiro Wisike
8th June, 2025.
With the endorsement and counter endorsements by perceived different factions within the party in Delta Central, one wonders if the APC is a party to count on in Delta state come 2027.
Again, considering the drama that played at the venue of the unity meeting held in Ughelli, were the likes of Olorogun O’tega Emerho, were deliberately being introduced as ‘one of the founding members of APC’, but not the founder, and Minister Festus Keyamo, given preference and also regarded higher than a seating Senator Ede Dafinone representing the Delta Central. It is a clear signal that there is a crack and factions trying to undermined certain individuals or personalities, and a possible hijack of the APC political structure in the state by some persons with personal interest.
At the unity meeting, it took only Senator Ede Dafinone, to come out and introduced himself as the most highest elected political office holder in Delta Central, which many kicked against, stating it is a deliberate action to undermined his position so that the Honorable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace can be elevated higher than every other leader of the party in Delta State.
Meanwhile, some youths in the APC, have accused Hon. Festus Keyamo, of destroying the party in Delta state for his selfish interest, boasting that until the day of elections that they will know the true leaders in the party.
