Members of the Catholic Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (CAMPAN) gathered for their 2026 annual National Convention in Owerri, the Imo State Capital from March 18-21, 2026, with key resolutions to uphold human dignity in media coverage of violence within Nigeria’s fast-evolving digital landscape.
The event held at the Assumpta Pastoral Centre, Owerri, had the theme “The Media and Violence Reporting in Nigeria: Preserving the Human Element in a Technology Driven Communication Ecosystem,” CAMPAN positioned as the Church’s media arm promoting Christian values addressed sensationalism risks and recommitted to ethical journalism rooted in truth, justice, and compassion.Sir Chimdi Oluoha, CAMPAN National President
In a well attended convention by Catholic media practitioners from across Catholic Diocese in Nigeria, CAMPAN resolved to prioritize victim dignity by avoiding exploitative coverage, embrace investigative work against corruption, act as bridge-builders for peace over division, stick to fact-checked truth-telling, amplify marginalized voices according to Psalm 82:3-4.

In other to make her presence more effective, CAMPAN also pledged to boost her visibility through diocesan partnerships and revenue-generating projects beyond dues. They also
pledge peace-focused reporting echoing Matthew 5:9, as well as source protection with Proverbs 12:22. They also promised accuracy, and media literacy drives while quoting Proverbs 4:5 to sharpen modern journalism skills.

National President of CAMPAN, Sir Chimdi Oluoha, and Secretary Bro. Godwin-Maria Utuedoye, issued the resolutions on March 20, 2026, with the committee chaired by Mr. Valentine Joshua, and Mr. Jude Nzennaya, as Secretary, emphasizing steadfast compassion in all reporting.
