Olorogun Godwin Obire PhD, Chairman of Concerned Nigerians for Better Nigeria (CNBN), has condemned politicians from Ughelli/Udu Federal Constituency over their rumored ambitions for the Delta Central Senatorial seat in the 2027 elections, describing them as “desperate, selfish, and self-centered.”
Speaking to journalists in Asaba, the political strategist argued that the district’s message is clear: there is “no vacancy” in the seat currently held by Senator Ede Dafinone, whom he praised for his performance, accessibility, and people-centered representation.
“The political conversation surrounding the 2027 Delta Central Senatorial election has taken a new turn, and the message from well-meaning leaders across the district is clear,” Obire said.
“Senator Ede Dafinone has earned the confidence of the district through performances, adding that this a time Delta Central people need stability and continuity, saying it is only logical that a performing senator be returned for a second term.”
Obire highlighted Ughelli/Udu’s historical dominance, noting that the constituency has produced more senators than any other bloc in Delta Central. He cited late Senator Felix Ibru (Ughelli North), Senator Brume, Senator Pius Ewherido (Ughelli axis), and Senator Ovie Omo-Agege (eight-year tenure from Ughelli/Udu) as evidence of their extended influence across multiple cycles.
“When these tenures are placed side by side, it becomes obvious that no Federal Constituency has enjoyed the senatorial position more than Ughelli/Udu.
“Equity, fairness, and balanced political rotation demand that other federal constituencies also be given the chance to serve.”
He dismissed current ambitions and quest from Ughelli North, Ughelli South, and the broader Ughelli/Udu area as “misguided and premature,” warning that challenging Dafinone who has brought dignity, investments, and new visibility to the district would be politically insensitive and disrupt progress.
He noted that politics should be about service, but not entitlement. The era when one Federal constituency repeatedly cornered the senatorial seat has passed. Delta Central now seeks a more balanced political future where every constituency has a fair chance, and where performance, not old networks, determines who leads. Obire called for support for Seantor Dafinone’s second term come 2027, insisting that equity demands that other constituencies respect the rotation that has long favored them. He called for consolidating progress rather than derailing it through recycled ambitions.
