The Universal Basic Education Commission in collaboration with the Delta State Universal Basic Education Board, is organizing a 5-day capacity building workshop on Strengthening Mathematics and Science Education for 200 newly employed Mathematics and Science Teachers across the 25 local government areas of Delta State.

The capacity building workshop according to UBEC and SUBEB, followed successful completion of Phase One, Cycle 1 to Cycle 4 In Service Education and Training, INSET, from 2012 to 2025 of the SMASE programme.
The training which is an initiative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Education (FME), is residential and scheduled to hold from Monday 20th to Friday 24th October 2025, between the hours of 9am.to 5pm. daily, at Anglican Girls Grammar School, Ughelli, in Ughelli North local government area.
A statement by the Director, Teacher Development Department, Delta SUBEB, Mrs. Eru Ezefili, on behalf of the Executive Chairman of the Board, Hon Samuel Mariere, says the capacity building with the theme *Attitudinal Change in the Teaching and Learning of Mathematics and Science”, is a specialized training aimed at improving the teaching and learning of Mathematics and Science at the Basic Education level using the ASEI – PDSI approach.

The statement adds that the training emphasis is on the paradigm shift from the traditional teaching methods to a modern approach in which learners are actively involved in the teaching and learning process of mathematics.
